Another unit from the BMW R35 that had to be replaced was the drive shaft. The drive shaft that came with the project motorcycle was a wild assortment of parts put (and somewhere welded) together so they may look like an actual working unit from the distance around 10 metres. But it completely failed closer scrutiny: a two-pin fork was welded to three-pin base, rear housing was broken and welded, an improvised seal was put upon the remains of the original one. I suppose these photos will serve better than any words:
Luckily for me, reproductions of drive shafts are available. So I bought one, and some time ago it arrived at my workshop. Here it is side-by-side with old one:
